When you first learned divison, you may have seen this: 6 ÷ 3 = 2 6 is the dividend, 3 is the divisor, and 2 is the quotient.

To do this division on paper put 6 “inside the house” and 3 “outside the house.” 3 goes into 6 twice; write 2 over the 6. 2 times 3 is 6; write 6 beneath the 6 in the house and subtract. The remainder is 0. Again, 6 is the dividend, 3 is the divisor, and 2 is the quotient.
